A Haunted House 2 (Reasonable Doubt Sidenote)

(SPOILER WARNING!!! This article does contain spoilers, if you haven’t seen the movie, just see the first paragraph to be informed without spoilers!!!)

A Haunted House 2, if you are into stupid and not funny jokes, horrific recreations of some of your favorite horror flicks scenes, an excessive amount of sexual humor, untasteful racial stereotype jokes, and seeing Marlon Wayans screaming all the time and acting like a real fool, then this is your movie, not for me. Rating 2 out of 5 Stars.

I remember when the original horror spoof Scary Movie came out, and how funny it actually was and how comically creative it was. Even though some scenes might have been obscene but the laughs just kept coming. Then when these types of movies just kept coming and coming, it got old real quick to a point where almost nothing is funny just offensively nasty in so many ways. Now comes A Haunted House 2, a very unnecessary sequel to the dreadful A Haunted House. This was no different, and in some cases worst then the original. I will start with what I didn’t like, to some so-so, but here comes the hate.

What I didn’t like, the story (or lack of) was probably written by a fifth grader. Pretty much Malcolm, played by Marlon Wayans, survives being attacked by his demonic possessed ex girlfriend, and moves on to a single Caucasian mother of two, played by Jaime Pressly, and move to a new house that is haunted once again. The acting was what it is for a dreadful movie. You see and hear Marlon Wayans just screaming and doing stupid stuff during the whole movie. I know Marlon Wayans likes to overact, but really now. What happened to Marlon Wayans? I remember his potential in movies like The Sixth Man and Senseless, but now it’s just annoying and a shame to watch him. Maybe he should do what the rest of his brothers do, and just disappear. Jaime Pressly did what she can for her role, but let’s face it, she just had to endure all the Caucasian jokes in this movie. i guess somebody had to do it. I’m also disappointed that one of my favorite comedians, Gabriel Iglesias, was in it, but only to play a somewhat sensitive stereotypical Mexican neighbor. I don’t know what it is, but three of my favorite Latino comedians, George Lopez, Carlos Mencia, and now Gabriel Iglesias, had stupid stereotypical Latino roles. It’s something I hope they can move on from that. The humor was not funny, and it seems that they were trying to cash in on the sexual jokes, but to me it was just obscene. Especially Malcolm having sex (or somewhat of it) with a wooden doll just made me shake my head. The comedy was definitely forced with slapstick as well, especially the scene with the chicken was somewhat of an overload. Probably the funniest line in the movie was from Gabriel Iglesias where he said, “I only drink the silver tequila, the gold tequila is for Cholos.” Even then probably only Latinos would get that joke. The conclusion of the movie was so horrific that I was looking at the time to see if I could catch my next bus quickly.

The so-so, believe it or not, some of the graphics were not bad, like when Keisha, played by Essence Atkins, eyes turned to a demonic glance. Some of the scary faces were kind of scary, and believe it or not some of the jump scenes did make me jump. With that said, it was only a little bit in the movie that didn’t make it go down to Movie 43 status.

Overall, A Haunted House 2 was an unnecessary sequel to a franchise that needs to have the plug pulled, cuz I can’t endure another sequel!!! Final Rating 2 out of 5 Stars.

(SIDENOTE: Sidenotes are movies that i briefly critique that I saw on DVD and not in the movie theater. Today I present Reasonable Doubt featuring Dominic Cooper as a lawyer and Samuel L. Jackson as a psycho. Not the best acting role for Jackson (maybe cuz he barely yelled but he eyes were psychotically menacing). The movie was interesting the first two-thirds in with some twists that gets you engaged, but the third act was so horrible it shows why it went to straight to DVD. It’s a semi good watch if you’re into law, but the ending will make you mad!!! Final Rating 3.5 out of 5 Stars.)
