The 5th Wave started off intriguing, but almost immediately, it turned to a predictable teen movie mess!!!

Chloe Grace-Moretz is on her way to stardom. I see the potential in her when she acts in her movies. She actually puts some heart in her acting roles, and i can see her blow up just like Jennifer Lawrence. She just needs that one movie role to put her to the top. I loved her in Kick-Ass, which as a very young girl, shows she could do very well in an action movie. She handled herself very well, and very convincing as a young girl superhero. The one movie where I see she has great potential in her acting was her role in If I Stay. The movie may be mediocre, but her acting was pretty good and top notch. As I said, she is one great role away of leaving the teen films and moving to bigger and better acting roles. She is only 18 years old, so patience is virtue for her. With that said, she still starred in another teen movie from a teen novel called The 5th Wave. I knew the movie will be horrible, but she will be the bright spot in this movie. I was right.
What I Like: That first scene with Chloe Grace-Moretz as Cassie Sullivan looting a convenience store, and having a standoff with an injured person was very tense and thrilling. Right then and there I knew Grace-Moretz will be acting fine in this movie. That moment when she shot the guy, and realized it was a mistake, was perfectly awesome. It actually made me think this movie had potential. I also enjoyed the acting of Maika Monroe who played Ringer. A very tough and rugged teenage soldier who really steal some scenes in a good way, and make you forget about the rest of the soldiers. Unfortunately, that was the only cool scene in this movie.
The So So: The action was decent, but you can tell that they inputted some cheap CGI into it. Though the action is appropriate, it was an eye sore at times. The fact that aliens can be humans, though intriguing, wasn’t executed properly. They could’ve done something very unique with that angle, but turns out to be the same old alien movie mess. Some of the acting from other people were very amateurish, and sometimes made my eyes roles with their dramatic acting. Liev Schreiber as the villain of the movie, Colonel Vosch, really started out convincingly as a good guy, but once it goes down as a villain, he wasn’t really that terrifying. Intelligent, maybe so, but not terrifying.
What I Didn’t Like: The movie try to sell it as an alien invasion action movie, but in reality, it was another horrific teen movies with all their cliches. They just had to have a love triangle with a human, and a guy who is part human and alien. Come on now. The high school setting with all the stereotypes. The fact that a group of children and teens can save the world is really starting to become a dumb storyline. There wasn’t know real emotion here either. All the deaths that happened to the protagonist in Cassie should be an emotional time, but I wasn’t feeling it. Zackary Arthur playing her youngest brother, Sammy Sullivan’s acting was horrific for child acting standards. How that stupid teddy bear created the chain of events for Cassie was dumb and cliched as well. The story was too predictable. Mainly because they did a lot of obvious foreshadowing where I knew were going to happen. Like I knew the military is off to no good as soon as Cassie mentioned that their cars are working. More so, by seeing the obvious acting from Maria Bello as Sergeant Reznic, that she is somebody evil. I mean if making kids become soldiers isn’t obvious enough, I don’t know what is. I knew that Evan Walker, played by Alex Roe, was not some kind of human. The fact that he started to fall in love with Cassie, was just over the top for me. Made this story just too much for me to bear. Lastly, they didn’t even show any aliens. I was hoping to see their unique take on an alien to get me excited for, but got nothing. Worst alien movie ever.
Overall: This movie, which gave potential at the beginning, but turns out to be false hope, was just another teen movie mess. If you love teen movies and all of their cliches, you must be a teenage girl, cuz that is the only way you would like this movie. As for Chloe Grace-Moretz, I really hope she movies on from the teen movie genre, and making some serious movies. Like I said before, she has potential, and to be a bright spot in these teen movies really shows that she has what it takes to take Hollywood by storm!!!
