(SPOILER WARNING!!! This article does contain spoilers, if you haven’t seen the movie, just see the first paragraph to be informed without spoilers!!!)

Allied is an interesting story with some thrilling moments, but I knew how it was going to end right from the beginning!!!

Still can’t believe I haven’t talked about Brad Pitt yet. That good looking guy that all the ladies love and adore, but the guy can act. I enjoyed watching him in many different movies that are a mix of drama, action, and even comedy. He can practically do it all. (I always thought he could have played Thor in the Marvel Comics.) Some of the films I enjoyed with him in it are Seven, Seven Years in Tibet, Fight Club, Moneyball, Inglorious Basterds, and the Ocean’s Eleven movies. He is a fine actor, not sure if he will win an Oscar although he’s had nominations. If he picks the right scripts, he can pull it off, but I can’t say that now. This film stars him and the beautiful Marion Cotillard, on a War World II romantic thriller, I was intrigued with the story, and with these two actors, and it was worth a shot.

What I Like: Director Robert Zemeckis really knows how to make a scene thrilling. He also likes to create fun visual action, but in this case he took a different approach to focusing on the characters. I thought Pitt and Cotillard had great chemistry together showing why both of them are tremendous actors. For a romantic film, it did its job. I liked the story of two undercover agents doing a mission as a pretend married couple, and then end up falling in love and getting married. She is accused of espionage, and Pitt’s character gets intense and he tries to prove her innocence by breaking protocol and taking matters into his own hands to find out the truth. The payoff at the end was emotional, and shows that love can make you do extreme things, even if it kills you. When she commits suicide to save him from being accused of treason, delivered a powerful moment. You feel the thrills in the action scenes, but you feel the emotion in the romantic scenes.

The So So: There were some slow moments which naturally come with a romantic film, but it does pertain to the story and made it flow very well.

What I Didn’t Like: I knew she was the spy right at the beginning of the film. Call me paranoid, but when they said she was wearing a purple dress, but it looked almost black, I knew she was a spy. To support my theory, the conversation where he said it is a big mistake to have sex, and she responded, “It’s not the sex, it is the emotion that kills you,” validated my prediction that she was a spy. It was very predictable, unfortunately, and I wished there was a great twist to make this movie great, but they pretty much played it safe. It was wise to make her a spy instead of being innocent, because, that would have been too cheesy.

Overall: It is a good romantic thriller that featured two tremendous actors doing their best. Even though it was predictable for me, it is still an interesting movie to watch. Just don’t expect anything great, but I believe you will be satisfied for sure!!!

(Sidenote: Meet the Blacks- Unfortunately Mike Epps may be headed to the Marlon Wayans world of comedic parody films that are more annoying than funny. The movie is a parody of The Purge, but in a black comedy. It had some chuckle moments, but all you hear in the whole film is nothing but people screaming and gunshots. Some of the cameos are funny, but forgettable in the end. I hope Mike Epps sticks to stand up, because if he goes down the Marlon Wayans road, he will be known for his bad movies rather than his actual comedy which is funny!!!
