Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man Tell No Tales may have a redundant story, but just like their past films, it is always a fun popcorn movie for fans to enjoy!!!

Rating: 4 Stars

What I Like:

-It was a fun movie to watch where fans will continue to come and enjoy
-Action was good, and engaging
-The comedy was funny as usual with some great dialogue
-Extra backstory for the character of Jack Sparrow, played by Johnny Depp, brought some more depth to his character development
-They brought back past characters from past films to make this film tie everything together into a nice story

The So So:

-The story is redundant with a villain wanting revenge on Jack Sparrow, and they need to find some rare treasure to solve their issue, but with that said, it is part of the Pirates lore that makes these films good enough

What I Didn’t Like:

-Javier Bardem as the villain, Armando Salazar, reminded me a lot of Captain Hector Barbossa in the first film, and even Commodore James Norrington in the original trilogy, because of that his villainous actions seemed typical and not Bardem’s acting seemed too out of place for me
-I felt there were some continuity errors involving Jack Sparrow’s compass that he always carries around
-The shark scenes I don’t like, because I’m terrified of sharks

SPOILER THREAD (Don’t read if you haven’t seen it):

-There was a Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back moment when Captain Barbossa, played by Geoffrey Rush, revealed he is Carina Smyth’s father which made me roll my eyes a little bit, but the way they did it was kind of unique
-Captain Barbossa ends up dying epically, and if this means the end for his character, I really enjoyed this character as a villain and anti-hero throughout this franchise, Rush always played him with great charisma and there was never a dull moment with this character, it was almost sad to see him go especially when he told Carina he is her father

Overall:

Yes the story is typical and redundant, but fans of this franchise will not be disappointed. The action, comedy, and fast pacing really made this an enjoyable popcorn film for everyone alike. Honestly for me, it is the third best film in the franchise. If this is the last film, I believe it ended on a good note, and will be satisfied if that is it. If not, I hope it keeps its charm and enjoyable fun as it moves on. Whatever the case, as a fan, I have always enjoyed these films!!!
