The Mummy (Sidenote: Sleepless)

The Mummy cool action does not save it from being a dumb, corny, and weird mess!!!

Rating: 2 Stars

What I Like:

-The cool action and special effects were really top of the line, especially that plane crash scene

The So So;

-The villain, Princess Ahmanet played by Sofia Boutella really started off looking creepy, with those eyes that will haunt you, however, her villainous intentions were very cliched that reminded of the other The Mummy movies in the early 2000’s

What I Didn’t Like:

-It really was very campy with their somewhat comedy that really made me roll my eyes instead of laughing
-It drew a fine line of being a mummy movie and a zombie movie, and in the end, I felt it was a zombie movie more than anything
-Probably the least appealing role for Tom Cruise, you barely see him running or be on a motorcycle, and his character wasn’t really likable to begin with
-Jake Johnson, playing Chris Vail, a sidekick for the protagonist was more annoying than comic relief, even for his creepy scenes, I couldn’t take him seriously
-The story was all too predictable where I knew what will happen right for the beginning of the movie

I wish its action and special effects really stand out, because it really was that good, but unfortunately, what stood out is all the things i really didn’t like about this film. It was too campy and corny which really didn’t even make me laugh once. The story was too predictable and at times, very dumb. It was creepy, but not to a point where I was on the edge of my seat, it was more weird than anything else. I’m really surprised that Tom Cruise took this role, because it really isn’t that good. Lastly, if this is the movie that supposedly start the Dark Universe of monsters from Universal Studios, it really is off to a bad start. Worse than the DC Extended Universe by miles!!!

(Sidenote: Sleepless- This film starring Jaime Foxx as a dirty cop in Las Vegas you bit off more than he could chew. It had an intriguing premise with some cool fight scenes, but overall, it brought nothing new to the table. It is a typical action film with cool cinematography of the city of Las Vegas. The ending was also over the top which didn’t sit well for me!!!
