War for the Planet of the Apes wasn’t exactly what I expected, but the story and characterization was phenomonal and really packs an emotional punch!!!

Rating: 4.5 Stars

What I Like:

-The story, just like the first two, was amazing really had a lot of emotional moments that were powerful
-The character development was on point, they recreated the characters we already know and love, and gave them extra depth, it was fun to see how it unravels
-Woody Harrelson playing the human villain, as The Colonel of the army was awesome, he was very psychotic and obsessive that really made us want to hate, but understand where he is coming from and why he believes that way
-Steve Zahn plays Bad Ape, he provided a lot of the comic relief in this film which was hilarious, and his role proving vital to the story
-I really enjoyed how they are tying loose ends from the original Planet of the Apes movie and make it all come together, it gives even more of an understanding of what really happened on Earth before the events of that film happened

The So So:

-For a film titled War for the Planet of the Apes, I really expected more war action scenes like it’s predecessor, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, which I enjoyed tremendously, instead you get more of a story of enslavement and escape which was great to watch, but  I wanted to see an all out war with Apes versus humans, but that was very minimal in this film which is slightly disappointing

What I Didn’t Like:

-There are minor moments where it was predictable, but it didn’t really affect the main purpose of the story

SPOILER THREAD (Don’t read if you haven’t seen it):

-The ape Caesar, played by Andy Serkis, was awesome as usual as the leader of the apes, and seeing a side of vengeance after his family was killed, it was very interesting to watch because that is not what we are used to seeing him in his character and brought something new to him
-Caesar after leading his apes to a better land, he succumbs to his wounds he suffered from the last battle and eventually dies, this provided a very emotional moment because he truly was a great leader that really tries to stand for peace instead of war, his character will be remembered in cinematic history as somebody unique and powerful, and bravo to Andy Serkis who captured his emotions greatly which is not easy for him to act upon

Overall:

Even though I expected more war and battle scenes, it was still a great film to watch. The story and the character development was perfect to give us an emotion of caring for these apes from beginning to end. I’m not sure if there will be more of these films, but I would love to see a remake of the original Planet of the Apes in this series. I believe that will be fun for me to see with a better understanding!!!

(Sidenote: Fifty Shades Darker- I really didn’t like the first one, and this one isn’t any better. For a somewhat of a romance movie, it was so boring to watch. Even the sex scenes which, let’s be honest, people want to see were not good. The acting was horrible, and what is most dreading is that there will be another one after this. I don’t get why the book and these movies are famous. It doesn’t represent a great relationship whatsoever, it shows everything wrong in a selfish relationship!!!
