Birth of the Dragon may have a weak story, but the fights were entertaining enough to give us that martial arts action!!!

Rating: 3 Stars

What I Like:

-The fighting scenes is what made it watchable, I really enjoyed the main fight and the final fight as well
-Philip Ng playing the role of the legendary Bruce Lee was pretty good, they focused on his cocky level which was acted good, and the emotional realization of changing his style and attitude was some decent character development
-Same goes with Xia Yu playing Wong Jack Man, some decent character development that really climaxed in the end

The So So:

-For a story about a fight that really changed Bruce Lee’s way of fighting and living, there was not much substance to begin with (especially when nobody really knows what happened during the real fight), so they had to fabricate a story involving the Chinese mob to make it somewhat interesting which I’m not sure whether that was a good idea or not

What I Didn’t Like:

-As I said before about this made up story involving a true legend in Bruce Lee, it was very weak and rushed, and I’m glad this film was only 90 minutes

Overall:

Even with the weak storyline, it was still a watchable film. If you love martial arts and/or kung fu movies, it will not disappoint. I really enjoyed the fighting scenes, and really, that’s why I came and watched it for. I liked how they showed the character of the legend Bruce Lee in this certain, yet important, aspect in his life. This really is a B movie at its finest, so you get what you expect!!!

(Sidenote: Smurfs: The Lost Village- I have to say, this was better than the previous two movies, with that said, it still wasn’t that good. Yes, it was funnier, with better development, and a great voice cast of Rainn Wilson as Gargamel, but it is a typical children’s story that really only children can enjoy. Will they ever get a Smurf’s film right, honestly, I don’t know!!!
