American Assassin is a pretty good movie to watch, it may have its typical cliches, but I was entertainingly thrilled!!!

Rating: 4 Stars

What I Like:

-I give credit to director Michael Cuesta for creating a good action movie that was well paced and thrilling
-The action scenes were fun and made up for the cliches
-The acting of Dylan O’Brien as the main agent and Michael Keaton as his trainer were spot, and showed some good chemistry with one another

The So So:

-Yes it had its cliches for an action spy movie that relies on shoot em up, surveillance, car chases, shaky cam fights, bomb threats, and even boats going at high speeds, but the action wasn’t too over the top and really was fun and thrilling that you can forgive all the darn cliches

What I Didn’t Like:

-Taylor Kitsch played the villain for this film, and he is a run of the mill type of villain, I wish they fleshed out more of his backstory to make him interesting or relatable, but instead you get the same old same old revengeful villain
-The twists were very predictable

Overall:

Yes this film has its flaws, but the direction, acting, and action makes this a pretty entertains watch. You will still be on the edge of your seat, and be blown away by the heroics. If you’re into the James Bond/Jason Bourne films, you will not be disappointed watching this one. I also believe Dylan O’Brien is up and coming, so be ready for this budding movie star!!!

(Sidenote: Gifted- I thought this film was well acted and well paced. I liked the drama and the small twist in the end. Yes, it can be the same old type of drama that we seen before, but at least it packs some emotion of us. Just don’t expect any Oscars worthy tearjerker type of drama!!!
