Lady Bird is an interesting, well acted, good movie, however, I can’t shake the fact that I’ve seen this before!!!

Rating: 4 Stars

What I Like:

-The acting is top notch, Saoirse Ronan, playing the teenage girl with the self imposed name, Lady Bird, and her relationship with her mother, Marion plays by Laurie Metcalf, is a great spectacle to see
-Seeing Lady Bird interact with everybody in this film was very interesting, and seeing her grow in her senior year of high school is very real, and relatable for some people
-Speaking of relatable, me personally can relate to this film and the character Lady Bird, it was set in 2003, which was also my senior year in high school and in a religious school, wanting to get away from where I live for college, and my relationship with my parents and family and how strenuous it is, was spot on for me to relate

The So So:

-With all the critical success it has been receiving, I couldn’t shake off the fact that I have seen this type of film before, for example, The Edge of Seventeen was practically the same movie, I enjoyed both films very thoroughly, but don’t tell me this film is unique whatsoever

What I Didn’t Like:

-Some of the characters were very stereotypical, like the popular kid, the rebel, the goody two shoes, especially that one character, Kyle played by Timothee Chalamet, who was the stereotypical rockstar, who is also an emotional jerk, his character was eye rolling for me

Overall:

This film does hit me on a personal level relating to Lady Bird. It is almost eerie how on the nose it was for my life during that time. The great acting really made this a good film to watch. With that said, it is a typical teenage film which didn’t add anything new to the table, but does give a somewhat unique blend of the teenage drama. I’m sure the Oscars will be buzzing about this film, but no enough in my book to earn the big prize!!!

(Sidenote: The Big Sick- This rom-com film starring Kumail Nanjiani starring himself, and his love life. It is not your typical rom-com type of films which I tend to find it corny, but this one is better than most. I loved the comedy, and seeing the life of a comedian. I also thought the story is pretty unique. With that said, it still has a little of that rom-com corniness, and some minor plot holes that bothered me. Regardless, it is a good watch for guys to impress their girlfriends!!!
