Hostiles started off as intriguing, but eventually it went down the boring side with barely any action as expected!!!
Rating: 3 Stars
What I Like:
-The acting by Christian Bale and Rosamund Pike really made this film watchable, especially Pike showing her intense emotion after the tragedy she endures
-When there is action scenes, they were entertaining
-The fact that no matter who side you’re on, in this case the white men and the Natives, there are good people, and there are bad people
The So So:
-The story’s premise was intriguing, and had me engaged, but some development had been subpar, like they did a great job with Pike’s character and story, but how about Yellow Hawk, played by Wes Studi, and his story of what he did? Or the prisoner soldier, what’s his deal? Also, it seemed rushed on Bale’s character, Captain Joseph J. Blocker, on how he hated Natives, especially Yellow Hawk, and now ends up trusting and liking them, just seemed too farfetched to me
What I Didn’t Like:
-It was boring to me at times, it seems like most of the movie is dialogue and riding around terrain on horses
-The ending was eye rolling for me
Overall:
The story was interesting for me, but when it did start to unravel, it unraveled in a lethargic way. At the second half of the film, I was getting impatient by the boringness it brings, and wanted to see the end of this escapade. I give credit to the acting, direction, and cinematography, but other than that, I really didn’t fell the story was captivating whatsoever. I expected more Western type of action, and I barely got that. Maybe that’s why Westerns are pretty much a dead genre nowadays!!!
