Black Panther isn’t your typical Marvel Cinematic Universe type of movie, you do get some cool action, but it also has layers of culture and thought provoking themes that really makes this an interesting superhero type of experience!!!

Rating: 4.5 Stars

What I Like:

-This is not your typical Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), and that is a good thing, it brings a layer of culture, mainly from Africa and why that continent is so special, and gives themes of not only preserving your culture, but living with the sins of your past and learning to move on, and reaching out to other places for doing good to other people, it really makes this superhero experience very thought provoking, and takes away a lot of stereotypes about Africa
-Director Ryan Coogler really knows how to create an experience, the way he films and edits certain scenes were amazing, and he really did his homework on the Marvel character of the Black Panther, I’m really starting to really like Coogler, and looking forward to his next film
-The acting was really good and very authentic, Chadwick Boseman as the Black Panther really brought his character more depth as he becomes king of Wakanda, and all the decisions he makes really bodes well for his character, I like the use of woman in this movie and made them powerful, most notably, Danai Gurira as Black Panther’s body guard Okoye, she was awesome in the fight scenes and shows she is not a person to be reckon with, one of my favorites in that film, I also enjoyed Michael B. Jordan’s character as the villain, Killmonger, I thought his story had very good depth for a villain, and makes you realize why he acts in a villainous way, you almost feel for him when he finally loses, and that is just great writing
-The action was superb, with great use of CGI to create the landscapes, and that car chase scene was definitely awesome and shows why the MCU knows how to make great action
-The soundtrack was awesome as well, can’t go wrong with Kendrick Lamar

The So So:

-As I said before, this doesn’t feel like a Marvel movie, and that is a good thing, however, I was hoping for a maybe a reference or two of anything in the MCU, but nothing (only in the end credits, won’t say more), to just show it is in the same universe, but maybe I’m just being too fanboyish picky

What I Didn’t Like:

SPOILER THREAD (Don’t read if you haven’t seen it):

-One thing that did bother me a little, and the MCU has a habit of doing this, but they just killed off one of Black Panther’s main villain, Ulysses Klaue played by Andy Serkis, and I was liking him in the movie, but then he just gets killed off and that’s that, not sure what villains they will do for future Black Panther movies, but who knows
-It was a little predictable, but didn’t really affect the story
-Kind of disappointed that the last infinity gem wasn’t in this film, but then again the Soul Gem would just make too much sense if you get my drift

Overall:

This is not your typical MCU film, and that is a great thing. Instead you get a unique type of superhero film that has layers and layers of thought provoking themes, culture, and character development that still makes it a good watch. I’m looking forward to see what is in the future for the Black Panther, but I will be looking forward to see him with all the other heroes, especially Avengers: Infinity War. This film once again shows that the MCU knows how to make great comic book movies, and adapt it well with great actors and directors. They make the not so well known comic book superheroes into big time movie superheroes, and I give them all the credit and thanks for continuing that success. The next one will be Avengers: Infinity War, and I just can’t wait to see it!!!
