God’s Not Dead: A Light in Darkness may take a step back in it’s charisma, but their message is definitely real and a lot more thought provoking!!!
Rating: 4 Stars
What I Like:
-The biggest thing in this Christian movie that I really liked is the message which I believe it is more clear and thought provoking, instead of pushing their conservative agenda and making villains just straight up jerks, they went with a more humble approach to dealing with religious issues, and brought a sense of realness that we can relate somehow, the message of peace between groups against each other to me is very powerful and something I believe more churches should preach about
-I also enjoyed the focus on Reverend Dave Hill, played by David A. R. White, and showing a pastor going through real human emotions and vulnerability which adds to the realness of this film
The So So:
-At the beginning I thought the story was a huge step back from the first two movies because I thought it was too simple, however once it started to unravel, I really enjoyed the angle where this story went and preaching on humility and peace, sometimes simplicity is all you need to make something big and powerful
-The ending tough can be really corny, but it was the right message that I believed in very wholeheartedly
What I Didn’t Like:
-It does have less charisma than it’s predecessors in terms of tone and characters, and it does have a slower pace than usual which can be a buzzkill for some people
Overall:
I really did enjoy the first two films mainly because of its story and originality for a Christian movie, but this film took a more simplistic tone which created a message that was very powerful to me, and I’m willing to put it up for discussion on what you thought and whether you agree or disagree with it. I hope that it can bring an inspiration during these dark times that we can be unified peacefully even though we think differently. That’s my hope and prayer!!!
