Isle of Dogs has all the kinks that makes people love the films of Wes Anderson, it may be very slow at times, but the interesting story and humor makes it engaging!!!
Rating: 3.5 Stars
What I Like:
-The detail to stop motion animation is very intrinsic and makes it lifelike
-The voice casting was superb, and it really involves actors and actresses that has worked with director Wes Anderson before, so they know what to expect in their roles
-The humor and jokes does make me chuckle from time to time
-Hearing the drumbeats in its soundtrack is awesome to hear and enjoy
The So So:
-The story can be basic, but if you dissect it, it deals with many different themes about political corruption, tolerance to different people (or dogs in this case), love for one another, and not being afraid to do what’s right, all this makes it an interesting tale to watch
-Director Wes Anderson to me is an acquired taste with his filmmaking style, and for this film, it has everything you ask for with Wes Anderson, to me some of his schticks can get old, but I still respect his craft in what he does
What I Didn’t Like:
-The film can be very slow at times, some of the backstories are not really pertaining to the main story and can be distracting for me, at least the payoff was worth watching
Overall:
Once you like the acquired taste of director Wes Anderson, you can really delve in and really see the message this film is trying to make you see. The animation, voice acting, and humor makes it a decent story to watch. I wouldn’t put it up there with The Grand Budapest Hotel, but for me it is still enjoyable!!!
