Upgrade may seem like a sci-fi movie you already saw, but the story, action, and pacing is too good not to watch!!!
Rating: 4 Stars
What I Like:
-The action was pretty good, it had some good hand to hand combat battles that didn’t have shaky cams or any source of CGI
-The pacing was perfect for this kind of sci-fi film, it goes straight to the point very quickly, and seeing things unraveling little by little keeps you engaged from beginning to end
-I really enjoyed how director Leigh Whannell created a futuristic world where technology has really overcome with mankind, and yet there are people who has all the futuristic technology, but still like the old kind of things, a nice allegory if you ask me
The So So:
-The story was something we have seen before in many sci-fi movies, like it has a combination of Ex Machina and 2001: A Space Odyssey, so we knew how this will end, but the pacing, the mystery, the comedy (intended or not), the violence and gore, and the creepiness it brings really enhances this story for the better, and you can just sit back and really enjoy what it has to offer
What I Didn’t Like:
-The twist in the end was way too cliched, if you seen many sci-fi flicks, you know what I mean
Overall:
It can be a typical sci-fi film we have seen before, however, I give credit to the writing and direction of Leigh Whannell for actually making this movie very interesting and enjoyable. The biggest thing for me is the pacing and not making the sci-fi too extraneous for the normal people. It is a diamond in the rough type of ordeal where you will be glad that you took the time to watch!!!
