Hotel Artemis, strangely enough, was actually good to begin with with a solid cast and premise, just the third act took a turn for the worse unfortunately!!!

Rating: 3.5 Stars

What I Like:

-What really made it work was the strong cast, the acting was top notch most notably Jodie Foster as The Nurse, Sterling K. Brown as Waikiki, Dave Bautista as Everest, and Jeff Goldblum as The Wolf King there were other strong performances but those stand out for me, especially Goldblum playing a gangster, he played his normal roles in past movies, but it worked
-The premise of this film is interesting about a hospital for criminals to heal after their endeavers, it is unique and quirky enough to make it engaging enough

The So So:

-The setting of a futuristic Los Angeles 10 years later is interesting seeing a huge riot (typical of LA) against a political agenda, it was interesting and scary at the same time, with that said, it didn’t really expound on why this turmoil is happening, they briefly said it was about clean water, but not much more, I would’ve been interested in seeing that aspect of the story

What I Didn’t Like:

-The third act where everything was going down just really didn’t make a whole lot of sense and really was just gory action scenes, I thought everything was going way too quickly and really didn’t do its story premise any justice, especially the plot holes of what happens to some characters afterwards, kind of hung me out to dry in that regard
-Charlie Day as Acapulco, a gangster, was really hard for me to take him serious, he didn’t have it, at least he was good with the comic relief

Overall:

I was enjoying this movie with its strange but unique premise. The acting made it work for such an abnormal story about criminals and their “benefits.” Unfortunately, the third act just went way to wild for my liking and really made it a little uneven. It’s too bad, because I was really enjoying it!!!

Early_Man_Poster

(Sidenote: Early Man- In this stop motion animated British film I did have some laughs and really enjoyed the concept of a soccer game in the early Caveman/Knights time. As far as the story goes, it was the same old type of story that really is good for kids and adults who are fans of the Wallace and Gromit movies. Other than that, it’s good, but not good enough!!!
