The Happytime Murders has a good gimmick for a premise, but the comedy is too raunchy for my liking!!!
Rating: 3 Stars
What I Like:
-The premise is intriguing, and I’m actually surprised that it came from the same production umbrella from the great Jim Henson
-I do appreciate the hard work the puppeteers put in to make it realistic (relatively speaking) as possible
The So So:
-The comedy did have it’s moments, but it really leaned heavily on the raunchy and crude side, there were more moments where I laughed, but there were moments where I was cringing with their effects, it eventually became lazy comedy writing
What I Didn’t Like:
-The story was a typical cop story (only involving puppets) had a good chance of speaking about equal rights, but really just went with a raunchy comedy that lost it’s luster in the middle of the movie and typical cliches
-You have Melissa McCarthy being Melissa McCarthy, and for me that is not a good thing
Overall:
This film had a lot of potential, but it was wasted with lazy, crude, typical comedy. This is on the Deadpool echelon of comedy only less tasteful. For some of you all, that is all what you want (you know who you are). As I said before, I’m surprised this came from the same production umbrella as Jim Henson with the Muppets and Sesame Street. I bet Jim Henson is rolling in his grave right now!!!

(Sidenote: The Miracle Season- This sports movie about a volleyball team that endured tragedy to actually win a state championship (Read the title it’s not a SPOILER). The acting is cringeworthy, the story is a cliched sports story, but the execution is pretty good drama, especially with the volleyball games. So if you’re a fan of volleyball, this is a good watch!!!
