Bohemian Rhapsody is more of a musical than a biopic where fans of Queen will not be disappointed by Rami Malek’s portrayal of Freddie Mercury!!!

Rating: 4 Stars

What I Like:

-What really made this film watchable is seeing the acting of Rami Malek playing Freddie Mercury, I thought he captures his charisma very well, especially in his performances, Malek really did his homework in playing the legendary lead singer
-What also makes it fun to watch is seeing how some of their most famous songs were created and produced, showing their radical side of what makes Queen unique, from beginning to end fans will enjoy the music for sure
-The dialogue and interaction between the main characters is entertaining and very funny to hear them banter

The So So:

-I know it is one of Mercury’s trademark, but the prosthetic teeth they gave to Malek to show his overbite was too exaggerated and distracting for me, I couldn’t stop looking at it and ask myself if his teeth are really that bad, and looking at videos of the real Mercury, it really is not

What I Didn’t Like:

-As a biopic, it lacked a lot drama, and was pretty much a paint by the numbers ordeal, I thought they were going to dive into Mercury’s character more showing the inner demons he had to deal with, but in the end everything was just too easy for Mercury to solve, and I’m pretty sure that there is more into that story than what the movie showed, and that is a little disappointing
-For a film called Bohemian Rhapsody, you barely hear the song throughout the whole movie

Overall:

Fans of the band Queen will enjoy this movie. The music they all expect to hear is there for their enjoyment, and they would not be disappointed in Rami Malek’s portrayal of Freddie Mercury who really captured his true essence into why he is important to Queen. As a biopic, it is really subpar in their drama and really expected better. With that said, it does show why the band Queen is legendary, and why Freddie Mercury is an icon to music with songs we still hear today!!!

(Sidenote: Book Club- this film stars some very respectable actresses such as Diane Keaten and Jane Fonda, but thrown in a rom-com. Pretty much their book club reads a “certain” book, and helps with their “love life” with their marriages or dating life. To me, it is just a typical rom-com with corny jokes, barely had me chuckling, featuring old people instead of young adults. Not my cup of tea if you ask me!!!
