The Hate U Give is a powerful film that can make you think when you approach it with an open mind, teen movie cliches aside!!!

Rating: 4.5 Stars

What I Like:

-Amandla Stenberg acted greatly in her role as a teenage witness of a police shooting, and all the repercussions that followed and impacted her, the emotion she gives in her role looked very authentic, her dealing with her own identity is some great character development that is so real it makes you think what these teenagers are going through today
-The story is very powerful, if you approach it with an open mind, you can see how a tragic event can impact anybody no matter what your background is, what I really enjoyed is seeing the ups and downs of standing up to a social issue no matter where you stand, it really makes you think what is really right and what is really wrong, and I love it when a movie does that to you
-Director George Tillman Jr. creates some tense scenes with the police scenes, riots, and face offs, the ending really gave me some emotional impact

The So So:

-It is considered as a teen type of movie and I can see that with their teen movie cliches, like the protagonists romantic life and squabbles with other students and friends, with that said, I believe this is more than a teen movie, this is an impactful drama that everyone needs to see

What I Didn’t Like:

-After the intense climax, I thought the ending was a little rushed, and to be quite honest, a little too happily ever after, it just takes away from the realness and tone that throughout the movie brings

Overall:

This film brings a complexity that makes this powerful, impactful, and thought provoking. I urge people if and when they watch this movie to keep and open mind into everything it brings and why certain people think and act a certain way. It is a film that is needed today to spread the message of love, understanding, and unity. For that, I applaud to it greatly!!!
