Aquaman may follow some origin story cliches, but it is a fun movie about the underwater superhero, and I’m an Aquaman hater!!!
Rating: 4 Stars
What I Like:
-I give a lot of credit to director James Wan for creating a universe that looks awesome, the underwater special effects made it cool, and the cinematography is spectacular
-Jason Momoa really enjoys his role as Aquaman and that’s why his portrayal really works, a superhero with some attitude and humor, and I also enjoyed his chemistry with Amber Heard as Mera, they made it fun and genuine being together
-I also enjoyed the portrayal of Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as the villain Black Manta, I’m looking forward to see more of him in future films
-Other acting were pretty good like Willem Defoe as Nuidis Vulco, and Patrick Wilson as the main villain, Ocean Master, they pertained to the story very well
The So So:
-The story is a cliched type of origin story, the same old person who discovers himself and is known to be a future leader, and he pretty much completes it, with that said, director James Wan really makes up for it his spectacular visuals, it’s not everyday we get a film about underwater people
What I Didn’t Like:
-The tone really started campy for me with how Aquaman’s parents came to be, and I was thinking this is going to be bad, but eventually it grew on me pretty quick (the aquarium scene made up for that)
-I was highly disappointed that the score from the trailers didn’t make it to the film, I thought that musical score was awesome
SPOILER THREAD (Don’t read if you haven’t seen it):
-I predicted once Aquaman’s mother, Atlanna played by Nicole Kidman, was dead, that we will see her again in the sotry, I mean would they really get Nicole Kidman for only five minutes? Didn’t think so
Overall:
I came to this film with very very low expectations. Especially because, Aquaman is my least likable superhero. With that said, I found the film enjoyable because of James Wan direction, great special effects, and Jason Momoa playing Aquaman. It is fun and enjoyable, and the die hard Aquaman fans (They are out there) will not be disappointed. It sparks some new life to the DC Extended Universe, and maybe it will roll it’s tide (Get it), but I’m not holding my breathe!!!

(Sidenote: Sorry to Bother You- This a comedic satire mainly about corporate America. It is very interesting and funny seeing where will it take us, and what is going to happen. All I can say is, it took a turn for the weirdness which affected my overall view of this movie. However, I get the message that it is really trying to bring, and I believe it will make you think once it is all said and done!!!
