Mary Poppins Returns has all the magic you love from the original movie, even though it may seem all too familiar!!!

Rating: 4 Stars

What I Like:

-If you’re a fan of the first movie, you will love this sequel after 54 years, it captures all the magic from the first film and then some, you won’t be disappointed with this sequel, you and your family will have fun
-Emily Blunt really nailed the role of Mary Poppins, I was skeptical at first because it is hard to top Julie Andrews’ performance, but she did the role justice, I was really impressed with her singing, dancing, and sass which brought back what Mary Poppins needs to be, I also enjoyed the performance of Lin-Manuel Miranda as Jack, an apprentice of Burt from the original film, the cameos which I will keep as a surprise, were spectacular as well
-The story made sense with all the magical stuff, it made sense and pertains to the story which made it flow well

The So So:

-I can compare this film to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the reason is because even though they are sequels, it does feel like the original film, it follows the same tropes and familiarities that it is almost like it the original but different, I know for some people, they will be annoyed, but for me, it works mainly because it for a sequel that didn’t happen for that long, you need that nostalgia to bring you back to the fold

What I Didn’t Like:

-The music is the main theme for this film, for me it is not my type of music, maybe the balloon ending scene was good enough, but I don’t think they are memorable, I could be wrong, but only time will tell

Overall:

I believe fans of the original, and maybe the books, will love this sequel. Emily Blunt does capture the role of Mary Poppins very well, and I believe Julie Andrews will be proud. It took a while, but I believe it is worth the wait to make this film with the technology today. It may not be my cup of tea in films, but I do respect it for what it brings to the table. It is a good movie for the whole family, and for people up in age to rekindle their childhood!!!
