Vice is an interesting take on the life of Dick Cheney with some great acting, but is there too much satire, for my case, it’s my favorite parts of this film!!!
Rating: 4 Stars
What I Like:
-What I really enjoyed from the writing and directing of Adam McKay is his approach to satire, and really making light of a serious situation, this time he holds no bars in pretty much criticizing the methods of former Vice President Dick Cheney and claiming (with no real proof) that he was calling all the shots instead of President George W. Bush, I laughed everytime they force their satire joke, and really was my favorite part of the film
-The acting also really made this film good enough, most notably Christian Bale as Cheney, I do believe he captured his essence of his character very well, the silent but deadly behind the scenes leader, I also give kudos to the makeup in really making him look like Cheney, I also give credit to Amy Adams as his wife Lynne Cheney, Steve Carell as Donald Rumsfeld, and Sam Rockwell making former President George W. Bush a real idiot
The So So:
-The fact that you can’t really prove all the things the film shows that Cheney does make it lose it’s credibility, but its a movie not a documentary, and he does admit that he did his best to show the scum he really is, but the satire jokes makes it better and I could sit back and enjoy instead of being worked up about what happened
What I Didn’t Like:
-The politics that happened, the political jargon which only political science experts can understand, and all that smear campaigns which I believe the film really tries to do, pretty much all the politics which I hate
Overall:
If politics really make you emotional (you know who you are) this is not the film for you. If you like Saturday Night Live political sketches compiled to a movie, you will enjoy this. For me, I appreciated the latter with it’s satire which really made me laugh more than I expected to. Yes, we can’t take this film seriously, but approach this as a comedy and appreciate the strong acting, you will enjoy it at the very least!!!
