Podcast premiering tomorrow February 6!!!
Glass started off intriguing, ended up disappointing, even if the twists make sense!!!
Rating: 3 Stars
What I Like:
-The one person that really stole the show was James McAvoy playing The Horde, seeing him playing all his different personalities, which includes The Beast, is definitely a treat to watch, I find it astonishing how he can change from person to another in a second, he was the brightest spot for this film and this trilogy
-I enjoyed the beginning of this film, I liked the angle of all three of them being in a asylum with a psychiatrist named Dr. Staple, played by Sarah Paulson, trying to convince them that they are delusional, in a psycho aspect it made sense and it really worked well with the story
The So So:
-One intriguing character is Mr. Glass, played by Samuel L. Jackson, it really portrays his superior intellect a lot more than his previous film, and I loved his dialogue and story of why he always ahead of the curve and has something up his sleeve, the thing is when it hits the climax, all the stuff he is saying about the comic books coming to life, and why he is doing it, sounded more like an obsession than a purpose which really got annoying at the end
What I Didn’t Like:
-The ending was just very underwhelming for me (more on that in the SPOILER Thread), and one of the big reasons is because the action was very subpar, the choreography looked off and dull, like you can tell that they were getting pulled by strings, the action wasn’t thrilling, some of the camera works during the fight scenes were awkward at best, I guess I kind of did expect a comic book movie action sequence like in The Avengers
-I also thought the character of The Overseer, played by Bruce Willis, was completely underused and really his character didn’t involve any real true purpose, that is also disappointing to me, because his character was great in Unbreakable
SPOILER THREAD (Don’t read if you haven’t seen it):
-It is not an M. Night Shyamalan movie without its twists, the first twist is where the asylum is really a place where an underground society works in preventing superheroes and villains from coming out to the public eye, apparently for about 1,000 years, for this twist it was interesting, but I hated the fact for story purposes, they killed all three guys and have the society win again, it was just a big let down for me, but still an interesting twist
-The second twist is that after the death of Mr. Glass, his intellect proves once again that he is always ahead of the game, he knew about the secret society, but plans a suicide mission to use all of the asylum’s cameras, hacked them, and still send the videos out to everyone through the Internet, what I liked about this twist is that it really gives depth to the intellect of Mr. Glass, but it still shows his obsession to comic books, and why does he really want to show it to the world after his death is a question mark I do have in my mind
Overall:
I really enjoyed Unbreakable, a film way ahead of its time. I sort of enjoyed Split, I liked the psych story of The Horde, but really it became really famous for the twist that showed it belong in the same universe as Unbreakable. As for this final film of this long awaited trilogy, it was very disappointingly underwhelming. I enjoyed the story’s development at the beginning, the great acting of James McAvoy, and the depth to the character of Mr. Glass, but in the end the execution was really lacking, and and the twists were affected because of it. Bottomline, I expected a lot better. In a time where comic book movies are massive success, it really should’ve tried to match that. Instead, it was more of a psych film which I wasn’t really expecting. That’s why it is mediocre at best in my book!!!

(Sidenote: Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween- Unlike the first film, the nostalgia wasn’t there. It is a kid’s movies, and it is very campy. With that said, it has a lot of good moments and action that really doesn’t suck. I manged to get through it, but I’m sure kids will enjoy the ride it brings!!!
