The Kid Who Would Be King is a kid campy sort of movie that works, action was decent, and fans of the King Arthur story would not be greatly disappointed!!!

Rating: 3.5 Stars

What I Like:

-I thought the story based on the King Arthur novel in today’s world was pretty decent, the way they mixed it all together was good and very straight forward which I can appreciate
-I thought the action was pretty good for the most part, it really didn’t look corny whatsoever, instead I was mildly entertained
-It also has some powerful emotional moments, though very small, but effective enough

The So So:

-It is a kids movie and it was definitely campy, it follows the tropes of kids going through the same hardships like bullying and parents, but the way the story intertwines with the campiness and folk lore, it really worked, I wasn’t bored and I believe fans of the King Arthur stories will not hate it, even with the eye rolling scenes, dumb jokes, and slapstick

What I Didn’t Like:

-One reason why this film was really campy was the character of Bedders, played by Dean Chaumoo, he was annoying and started to really dislike him as the film kept going, he plays the dimwitted good guy that is always around, and the character Lance, played by Tom Taylor, was the stereotypical bully gone good sort of character
-I also thought the final scene involving all the students in the school they go to into battle was way too far fetched for me

Overall:

This film has exceeded my expectations. Though it is not the greatest movie I’ve seen, but it gets the job done. I do believe this is a good family for parents and kids who enjoy a little adventure, and this is perfect for that. I thought they used the story of King Arthur effectively, and blended it very well to the world of today. Yes, it is very campy, but it wasn’t annoyingly bad. Did I mention Patrick Stewart was in this film? With all that combined, I thought it was a decent film for my taste. But for others, this will be more fun for them!!!
