Us was creepy enough to get my attention throughout, however, it became more of a slasher film with an ending that left me more questions than answers!!!
Real Rating: 3.5 Stars
What I Like:
-This film started off very creepy which I give credit to director Jordan Peele, the camera work, the picture of everything, and making some that looks serious, not that serious, the execution was phenomenally good
-Lupita Nyong’o’s acting was great not only as her character, but as the character’s doppelganger as well, as her normal self, her fear in this horror movie, and her fighting was awesome to witness, and the creepiness of her doppelganger was something to fear about, her eyes and the way she talks was terrifying, she was the best part in the whole film
-The comic relief from Winston Duke was hilarious, even in the most tense scenes his jokes and expressions really does lighten the mood for sure
The So So:
-All the creepiness that started in this horror film really kept me engaged, but then it pretty much turned to a slasher film which is one of the main reason I don’t like horror films, though it wasn’t too violent, but what they do is not show the really gruesome parts, so it wasn’t cringe worthy violence at least
What I Didn’t Like:
-After Jordan Peele did Get Out, what I really appreciated was the message that this thriller brings, it was unique, creative, and awesome, with this film, though creepy, the payoff of the story and writing didn’t really do it for me, it was too weird for my liking, and not only that, the twist really left me with more questions and answers which is not a good thing for a movie to do in my book, I expected something more thought provoking from Peele, but in the end, it was just a same old horror/slasher type of film
Overall:
I really expected another movie produced, written, and directed by Jordan Peele that will make me think and have to watch it again. For this film, it was pretty straight forward horror type of film. Nothing more, which is kind of disappointing to me. With all that said, I appreciated the creepiness and great execution this movie creates. What I do have a problem with, is the payoff which made me more confused than satisfied unfortunately. I guess I expected better, but feel he took a step back.

(Sidenote: Colette- This film reminds me a lot of the film The Wife, but what I like about this film is that it has more of an interest to me storywise. I also enjoyed the acting of Keira Knightley a lot more than Glen Close, and think she was more deserving of an Oscar nomination. Yeah this film had its share of slow moments, but the emotion and dedication that the character Colette brings to the table is fascinating to see!!!
