Hellboy is a remake that really loses it focus and grandeur that made the first two films good, sometimes the crazy and violent special effects isn’t the answer to make a movie great!!!

Real Rating: 2.5 Stars

What I Like:

-For the most part, the special effects looked pretty good, it seems like they took their time to make these beasts look good
-David Harbour playing the character of Hellboy was legit, played the character his own way, and I enjoyed Milla Jovovich playing the villain, The blood Queen
-The scene where Hellboy fights the giants was a great action scene

The So So:

-Part of the story was about Hellboy’s origin and how he became to be, though that part was not really needed but executed well, however, the fact that Hell boy doesn’t know why he was spared and raised really made for awkward and confusing moments that really wasn’t needed for the story, and it suffered from it

What I Didn’t Like:

-As great the special effects were, there was a lot of needless violence and gore, it seems like the film went all out in that department instead of making a better story, even though the special effects are good, it looked like it was made for the blood thirsty psychopaths
-Because of a lack of story, by the time they got into the third act, I was getting kind of bored and just wanted it to end already

I really liked the first films, and do believe that the acting of Ron Perlman and the direction of Guillermo del Toro really made those films good. Here with this remake they pretty much say we are much more violent and gory, and you all are going to love it. Sorry guys, that method didn’t work, nice try though. Not sure if there will be more of these movies, but I hope they try to get it right with the story instead of ripping things apart bloody disgustingly!!!
