Dora and the Lost City of Gold is very cringeworthy, where the comedy is not funny or way too juvenile, and the story is very subpar, disappointing really even for Nickelodeon standards!!!
Real Rating: 2 Stars
What I Like:
-In very, very small spurts you get a little bit of the Latino culture it brings, and that I can somewhat appreciate it
-Isabela Moner playing Dora I thought was pretty spot on, cheerful, yet annoying upbeat, just the way I imagined a naïve teenage Dora would be
The So So:
-You either hate it, or you love it, there is really nothing in between
What I Didn’t Like:
-The comedy, even for a kids movie from Nickelodeon, was not funny, instead it was cringeworthy a lot of the times, very little times I chuckled, but that’s about it, too many fart and poop jokes for my standard
-The story was way too predictable, it was like an Indiana Jones wannabe, and I predicted the outcome way before it happened
-The CGI for Boots and especially Swiper was pretty bad for my eyes to see
Overall:
I wanted this movie to be successful, especially with a predominantly Latino cast, but instead, it sets us back a few years in the cinema world. To me that is disappointing. I guess for a movie off the cartoon of Dora the Explorer I shouldn’t have expected much, but I can honestly say the cartoon is a lot better. The bright spot is the acting of Isabela Moner, but other than that, I can’t really be positive about anything. Bad and juvenile comedy, predictable script, and bad cgi, I just can’t get behind it. I just can’t!!!
