The Call of the Wild is a decent story, but this is a case of too much CGI where it can be distracting!!!
Real Rating: 3.5 Dog Sleds
What I Like:
-Even though it is all CGI’d, the landscapes does look beautiful, especially at night with the northern lights
The So So:
-The story really had good characterization for the dog Buck, but it does follow a formulaic plot of strength and courage, with that said, I was still engaged to the story
What I Didn’t Like:
-This was engorged with CGI, from the dogs and animals, to the set pieces, it got to a point where all this CGI got too distracting for my liking, if they wanted to go with a realistic story, they might as well gone with real animals
-The villain of this film, was just a stupid, revenger deranged kind of guy that we really don’t care for
Overall:
I enjoyed this film more than I thought I would. Mainly because I actually cared to see what happens to the dog Buck. With all that said, the CGI was just way too much, and just created distractions of unrealness. At least in The Lion King, the tone wasn’t realistic, but for this film, the tone was more realistic, and they should’ve gone with real animals (much to PETA’s chagrin). With all that said, it was good enough for the family to come and watch!!!
