The War with Grandpa

The War with Grandpa.jpeg

The War with Grandpa wasn’t boring, but it is definitely a Home Alone kids movie wannabe!!!

Real Rating: 3 Pranks

What I Like:

-The chemistry between Robert De Niro and the kid, played by Oakes Fegley, when they are not pranking each other, the genuine moments really was something heartwarming for a change from the jokes and gags

The So So:

-Seeing two people prank each other is cool and all and at times funny, but man did it remind me a lot of Home Alone, only Home Alone is a lot better movie, this film could be a lot more effective if it had a better story instead of concentrating on gags
-It was cool seeing a team up od De Niro, Christopher Walken, Cheech Marin, and Jane Seymour, but that whole dodgeball scene was very anticlimactic

What I Didn’t Like:

-The way the movie ended should’ve hit you in the heart strings, but the ending seemed so rushed and underdeveloped that it was a whatever movie in the end

Overall:

I honestly can say, this film had strong potential, but the story was underdeveloped and rushed with minimal heartwarming scenes which makes it the difference between a so family movie to a great one. You can’t underestimate Robert De Niro in his role. He did his best with what he got. The pranks and gags can be amusing, but it seems like there was too much focus on that instead of trying to make a better story. In the end, it is another kids movie where families will have to endure once again.
