News of the World is a nice story, and that’s about it!!!
Real Rating: 4 Coinfilled Bullets
What I Like:
-The acting was good with Tom Hanks playing Jefferson Kidd and seeing him bond with the girl, Johanna played by Helena Zengel, the unraveling of their relationship was cool to see
-The cinematography was great as well showing the desert of Texas during the road trip
The So So:
-The story is a simple nice story of a news story teller in the post Civil War era, and finds a girl who has been kidnapped and is obligated to take her back home, for the most part it is an Oregon trail wagon trip type of story, with some tense shooting scenes, but the story just played it safe with everything, like I wish they showed more of how tense it is with the Natives which they barely show, and maybe some more character development for Jefferson Kidd other than him dealing with the death of his wife, like why his attitude is different than most Confederate soldiers dealing with losing the war
What I Didn’t Like:
-As I said before, everything was too simple, paint by numbers, nothing really extraordinary type of story, it did lack emotional depth
Overall:
It is a nice story, but it is just way to simple and basic. It had some good moments like a good old western shootout, but not much. Even though the acting in a strange fatherlike to daughterlike relationship was good, it didn’t quite felt genuine enough for me to really care. At least I learned how a real life Oregon trail like trip looks like!!!
