In the Heights is a feel good musical that brings a lot of culture that personally hits close to home with me!!!

Real Rating: 4.5 Suenitos

What I Like:

-I was raised in a urban city where people freely share their culture and pride, and that is what this movie showed, culture pride, emotionally, it made me proud for who I am and how I was raised, when the song “Carnaval del Barrio” came on, I wanted to get the flags of my parent’s country and wave them around
-The music was great, and anything with Lin-Manuel Miranda, you know it was going to be great, the urban sound is something I will always love, the mix of Latin music will always get me moving, and most of the songs are just feel good music that I will enjoy from time to time
-In this musical, it was visually stunning as well, showing the beauty of Washington Heights, NY with great cinematography, director Jon M. Chu is definitely one of the most creative directors out there, and the musical number “96,000” at the pool was one of my favorites for the visual works, awesome choreography and camera work

The So So:

-So there were many subplots, and a couple left some loose ends which I wanted answers to, I won’t spoil it here, but you all can ask me, and it may be nitpicky, the set up to these stories were great, but never really closed it out

What I Didn’t Like:

-Practically nothing, go watch this great movie

Overall:

This is not only a movie, but musical that I have been waiting for. A work of art that shows the culture and heritage of urban living, and not being afraid of who you are. This one hits close to home for me, because that’s how I was growing up. The biggest thing that this film shows is that, if you have a dream (or suenito) working hard to get it and not forgetting who you are, can break dividends to do what you want to do. The Oscars may come calling for some nominations for sure. In the end, this film hits close to home for me, and it will be something I will cherish for years to come!!!
