Old represents the best and worst of M. Night Shyamalan, at least his movies are always engaging!!!

Real Rating: 3 Names and Occupations

What I Like:

-It kept me engaged with the story’s concept, it made me want to see what will happen next, a talent that M. Night Shyamalan always have in his films
-The makeup is great, and really creative the effectiveness of what it wanted to achieve

The So So:

-The cinematography was awesome with the beach setting, which is always a plus for me, Shyamalan went with his inner Alfonso Cuaron in making long panoramic scenes, however, the fading of the images and scenes were really distracting and kind of ruined the whole moment of what it tries to achieve
-The acting either had some great dramatic moments, or some really cheesy and dumb moments, it was so tonally uneven that it ruins the flow at times

What I Didn’t Like:

-Shyamalan almost always likes to add a twist in his films, and this one was expected to happen, but for me, and without spoiling it, the twist I practically predicted from the middle of the movie, and with all that said, once the twist happens it left me with a lot of questions, but in the end it really made things really dumb, and the payoff wasn’t effective at all

Overall:

This film represents the best and worst that M. Night Shyamalan has to offer. The best is that his stories and concepts are always intriguing and it does keep you engaged to see what will happen. The worst is the usual Shyamalan twists that, in this case, really made the movie worse instead of mind blowingly better. This twist didn’t make too much sense, and really made it dumb in the end. With this latest entry for Shyamalan I thought his cinematography was good for the most part, but his execution with his actors needed some work. All in all, this will make you either like, hate, respect, or maybe all of the above in what M. Night Shyamalan does in his movies!!!
