The Batman

The Batman is a good and gritty detective story, but for three hours, it does drag!!!

Real Rating:

4 Contact Cameras

What I Like:

-I do like the dark grittiness it brings, plus seeing Batman playing the detective to find the murdering Riddler does keep it engaging
-Paul Dano as The Riddler was a good addition for this certain villain, he was creepily good, and in the end he is becoming more maniacal, plus his mysteriousness kept us guessing on his true motive, it was really good
-The acting overall was pretty good, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon was great and working with Batman, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman was good, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone was really good, and Colin Farrell as Penguin added some comedic relief in this dark picture
-When the action does happen, it is a lot of fun, especially seeing Batman get hit a few times really makes it a lot more grounded

The So So:

-I’m still stuck on how good Robert Pattison portrayed Batman, his tall brooding demeanor was really intimidating, but his voice just didn’t sound right for me, also his portrayal as Bruce Wayne was pretty much nonexistent, he was mostly a brooding young adult obsessive on becoming Batman every night

What I Didn’t Like:

-All that detective work can lag a lot, for three hours, I felt it drag a lot, seeing Batman look for things can get old really quick
-Without spoiling it, they did take some liberties to the lore of Batman which I didn’t quite like

Overall:

It is a really good Batman story. I prefer the dark and grittiness over campiness any day. The detective work is fun, but it also can drag. For a 3 hour movie, it did drag a lot. Regardless, I still like the creepiness from The Riddler, the action was very grounded for the most part, and seeing a fairly new Batman learning about himself and what he is capable of doing. I do believe Batman fans will enjoy it. I don’t think it is as good as the Christopher Nolan’s Batman, but at least it is better than the Snyder/Whedon cut. With all that said, I also appreciate seeing some sort of portrayal of the Dark Knight on the big screen!!!
