Black Adam

Black Adam was everything Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was expected to be, but the strange CGI, lack of charisma, and a typical hero story trope really brings it down to not so good standards!!!

Real Rating:

2.5 Slow Mo The Rock Close Ups

What I Like:

-Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was passionate about playing this character, and it shows playing Black Adam, you see the emotion with this character’s history and trauma, you do understand and sympathize with this character, and enjoy everything he has to show with it all
-I also enjoyed Pierce Brosnan’s portrayal as Doctor Fate, his ideals and action scenes are fun and seeing him as the voice of reason to the Justice Society of America (JSA) is a good touch

The So So:

-I did enjoy the characters of Hawkman, Cyclone, and to a lesser extent Atom Smasher, but I felt their stories were way to underdeveloped especially with what is the JSA’s deal with their own society, it is a major plot hole that personally, I am curious about
-It does follow a lot of the superhero tropes in this, especially for DC Extended Universe (DCEU) standards, but it is why I come to love this type of films, but I admit, it is a bit overbearing in this one

What I Didn’t Like:

-The action was completely affected by the CGI, it showed that is clearly green screened, and many times, it just looked really bad, especially with the slow mo scenes where I swear director Jaume Collet-Serra was possessed by Zack Snyder
-Other than the main actors, I felt the rest of people acted very apathetic and wasn’t really feeling what they’re saying, it almost seemed emotionless
-The story was also very uneven, it seemed they couldn’t stick with one main theme and decided to go with all of themes in one, and it just felt like choppy execution, it just didn’t flow well

Overall:

I give credit where credit is due, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson did his things as Black Adam. I thought his portrayal was really good, and captures the character very well. If only he hired better writers and CGI artist. Because everything else looks very sloppy. From the uneven story, to the subpar acting, and the bad CGI, it wasn’t that enjoyable. I wanted to like this, but in the end, despite the few good moments, I just didn’t like it. Add to the fact that the future of the DCEU just looks more glimmer by the minute!!!
