Top Gun: Maverick

Top Gun: Maverick had a really enjoyable action and story, until the third act happened, which was eye rolling!!!

Real Rating:

4 Cockpits

What I Like:

-I always said that the movie Top Gun was overrated because of a lack of plot, but the story in this one is far better than the original, it had some depth and gives you something to care about, not just a bunch of guys having a measuring contest
-The action is awesome, really make you feel like you’re actually flying with them, it kept you engaged from beginning to end

The So So:

-I did say the story was better than the original, with that said, it wasn’t perfect, it is a little formulaic and some reliance on nostalgia, but it was a story that worked enough to give the thrills and enjoyment

What I Didn’t Like:

-I was all in the first two thirds of the movie, then the third act happened which to me was eyerollingly bad, I can’t say much cuz of spoilers, but all I can say is, the ending could’ve been a lot better

Overall:

I liked this film better than the first one. Though, it is not saying much because I thought the first one was overrated. You get everything you need in a Tom Cruise movie. At least this time around, the story is something that makes it more engaging, thrilling, and enjoyable. Unfortunately, the third act really made the difference from a good movie, to a great movie. Let’s just say, it all depends on how you view Tom Cruise, and the decision may be made!!!

The Bob’s Burgers Movie

I believe true fans will enjoy The Bob’s Burgers Movie, for everyone else, it is a decent comedy with their sets of cliches!!!

Real Rating:

3.5 Burger Patties

What I Like:

-From a person who hasn’t seen the show, I did enjoy the characters, as quirky they are, they do have great personalities with a sense of realism as well, I do like the true emotion they show in their given situation
-H. Jon Benjamin has a great voice, I love him in Archer, and here I enjoy the great blend of comedy and realism in his character of Bob Belcher

The So So:

-Their comedy is a blend of quirky weirdness and deadpan which fans of the show will definitely enjoy, for me, it made me chuckle with dialogue which is amusing at times

What I Didn’t Like:

-The overall story is cliched, and it does seem like an extended episode season finale instead of a movie

Overall:

It’s hard for me to write a review on a movie based on a show I haven’t watched. With that said, I can see why people really like this show. The characters are quirky and do show a great sense of realism as well. The comedy may be good for fans, but for me, it is ok at best. Lastly, it did seem like an extended episode than a movie with its cliched storyline. Bottomline, fans will enjoy it. As for me, I will always enjoy hearing the voice of H. Jon Benjamin in his comedy!!!

Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers

Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, despite the subpar story, it is enjoyable blast from the past that families can laugh and enjoy!!!

Real Rating:

3.5 Ugly Sonics

What I Like:

-I remember watching the cartoon Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, it was a classic for me, and this film was definitely a blast from the past, not only for the classic cartoon reason, but all the cartoons they brought out for this to give a Roger Rabbit type pf experience
-It doesn’t take itself too seriously, and that”s why it is funny, the jokes mostly hit, and it makes it work for the whole family
-The voice was great as well, John Mulaney is a great voice actor, and Andy Samberg is Andy Samberg

The So So:

-The story is not the greatest story ever, it is actually cliched, but it worked for the kind of movie it tries to bring

What I Didn’t Like:

-Not too much Monty, and he was one of my favorite characters from the cartoon

Overall:

You get a film that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and it worked out. Not only does it bring back a classic Disney cartoon, and brought another Roger Rabbit type of fun, but it was a no hold bars type of film that you can laugh and enjoy. Chip ‘n Dale will always live in Disney’s glory, but this film is a fun one for children to enjoy and adults to reminisce!!!

Firestarter

Firestarter is the epitome of a B movie, the subpar acting, story, and special effects, but most of all, it wasn’t scary!!!

Real Rating:

2 Pyromaniacs

What I Like:

-That it was set in New England

The So So:

-I do believe the premise of the story had potential, but there was so many plotholes, I didn’t get the reasons or motives for what it is happening to merit the ending it gave

What I Didn’t Like:

-The acting was bad for the most part, especially Charlie, she was not menacing enough
-The special effects and CGI looked cheap
-Lastly, it wasn’t scary, let alone , it wasn’t even tense enough for me to really care what happens

Overall:

This is another Stephen King book that has been butchered badly. The acting was subpar, the special effects were horrific, story didn’t quite make sense, and it wasn’t scary or tense. The film didn’t delivered enough for a somewhat intriguing premise. Bottomline is, don’t waste your time with this one!!!

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness can be a little underwhelming, but it is still an enjoyable and fun film to watch!!!

Real Rating:

4 Wongs Getting Knocked Out

What I Like:

-You get everything you expect in a Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film, great fun action, especially with Doctor Strange’s mystical powers, it is fun and enjoyable to see, I also enjoyed the new character America Chavez who contributes to the story very well
-Director Sam Raimi’s touch is in this, and I really enjoyed the horror or tense moments he brings, brings a different tone which I can get behind on
-Without spoiling it, a big twist makes it a big part of the story, and it is something big and enjoyable to watch, especially if you are a Marvel fan, movies or comics

The So So:

-With all the theories fans were talking about, it made me hope to see it all go down, however, a lot of it didn’t happen, it made it underwhelming for me, don’t get me wrong, the other surprises were great, but it kind of left me wanting more

What I Didn’t Like:

-The one character we knew was going to be there was Patrick Stewart as Professor X which pays great homage to the original animated series, but I wish I didn’t know that, and become pleasantly surprised when he shows up, it would’ve mad the moment so much greater and enjoyable to see (smh)

Overall:

It is everything you need in a MCU Dr. Strange type of movie. Great action, some fun, more character development for Strange, some good laughs, and surprises. With the great touch of director Sam Raimi. Unfortunately, it is a victim of too much fan theories and expectations which made it underwhelming. Though I don’t believe it will have The Last Jedi effect, it will still remain positive for opening the door to a bigger world and future stories with Dr. Strange. That is something to look forward to. With all that said, please fans don’t give too much expectations with your theories, and people who make trailers, keep the surprises of the film to the bare minimum. It would make the movie that much more special!!!

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent may be a Nic Cage love fest, but I thought the writing was clever and funny enough to enjoy it for what it is!!!

Real Rating:

4 Nic Cages

What I Like:

-You would think a film about Nicolas Cage as himself will be a love fest about Nic Cage, and seeing him at his pinnacle of eccentric acting would not sound good, but I tell you it is good, and that is because of the writing, it has some good layers and themes dealing with the things Nic Cage actually goes through, and of course dealing with superfans and how they can help you in the long run, the twists and turns can be fun and funny as the movie progresses
-The chemistry between Nic Cage as himself, and Pedro Pascal as Javi, a wealthy Nic Cage superfan, is so great and unique that it can give you some freshness in a buddy movie

The So So:

-This film only works if you are either a fan of Nic Cage, or at the very least, respect his methods of acting or the movies that he’s in, if not, you will not like, let alone understand, what this film is really all about

What I Didn’t Like:

-It can be too over the top with the action and acting
-The ending really makes me bring up a question in the end (if you all watch it, feel free to comment below about it)

Overall:

You have to love, like, and/or respect the actor Nic Cage to really get a kick out of this film. When you do, you can appreciate the film, and realize the writing is very clever and witty. It is a film you can’t take it seriously, and it knows that. You just have to sit back and relax, and let Nic Cage overtake you for 2 hours. It may not sound right or fun, but that is how this film plays out!!!

Everything Everywhere All at Once

Everything Everywhere All at Once is so crazy that works, once you get into the real story, it is something great to watch!!!

Real Rating:

4.5 Bluetooth Headsets

What I Like:

-Once the movie started going, it was a trip to watch, all the crazy and weirdness happening really gets your attention, and keeps you engaged into trying to find out what is going on, the action is so much fun, you definitely won’t get bored
-Once you do know what is going, there is a good story in there, really a story of dealing with different views on life, fighting for what you believe in, and self actualization, it is interesting so see that through all the craziness
-The acting and the Asian representation makes this authentic, and brings a whole new angle into what the story is trying to say, Michelle Yeoh really brings it to life, and it is awesome to see

The So So:

-With the Asian representation, there may be some offensive things said or shown, though it is very minimal, however, did it work for the story, I can say yes for the self actualization reasons

What I Didn’t Like:

-Did I mention that this movie is crazy, so crazy that if you blink you will miss something, though I enjoy movies that do that, if you are watching it in theaters, people with weak bladders may miss something (I know, a little nitpicky)

Overall:

This movie is so weird, so crazy, that it works. It starts off with all the craziness, and it ends with a thought provoking story. I haven’t even mentioned the whole multiverse thing which is the reason for all the craziness. In the end, this is a must watch. It has everything you want and then some for any movie goer. Just be ready for one wild ride!!!

The Bad Guys

The Bad Guys may have some identity issues, but it is still a fun watch!!!

Real Rating:

4 Marc Maron’s Laughs

What I Like:

-I thought the voice cast was great all around, especially Sam Rockwell, Marc Maron, and Richard Ayoade, they were the main ones that made the film entertaining enough to keep on watching
-The animation was pretty cool, very Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse like
-That beginning scene was so Quinton Tarantinoesque that it was awesome to see whats transpiring in the first 10 minutes

The So So:

-It is the same old theme for a kids movie, but it was entertaining enough for me to care what happens

What I Didn’t Like:

-It had some identity issues, like a cross between Zootopia, Ocean’s 11, and Pulp Fiction, and it chaotically goes from one theme to another, it just gave you too many different feelings, and not sure how to feel those feelings
-The story was very, very predictable

Overall:

It’s a fine movie. The animation and the voice acting keeps you engaged throughout. Yes it does have some themes and identity issues, but at the very least, you can follow on what’s going on. It’s a good enough family film with a good lesson. Just wish it wasn’t too cliched, that’s all!!!

The Northman

The Northman is a bloody good time, even though I get lost in what is happening from time to time!!!

Real Rating:

4 Norse Words

What I Like:

-It’s everything I wanted it to be, an epic that has a lot of battle and violence, and it did not disappoint, for fans of gore, it is a bloody good time
-The acting was tremendous, especially Alexander Skarsgard and Claes Bang, their acting reminded me a lot of the film 300, and I love seeing two Nordic Warriors going at it with each other and making manly yells and growls (don’t judge me, you know what I mean)

The So So:

-Director Robert Eggers just love to darken his films like the early DC Extended Universe movies, I’m not a fan of films doing that, but in this case, it works for the sake of tone and story
-The transitions can be confusing to me and determining what is real and what is not, but it wasn’t too distracting either

What I Didn’t Like:

-It is a typical revenge and Hamlet type of storyline only with Norse warriors and crazy sorcery

Overall:

Story may not be perfect, but everything else was really fun to watch. Seeing guys duking it out with swords and stuff, and seeing their expression of pride on their faces really gets your blood pumping. It is bloody and gory which is what I was expecting, and it delivered. The acting all around is great too, and when you put it all together, you get a fun movie. We haven’t had a film like this since 300, and I’m all for it!!!

Hope Lives

Hope Lives has a good message for everyone to watch, no matter what your spiritual faith is!!!

Real Rating:

4 Bully Sessions

What I Like:

-In the case for the topic of bullying, it is interesting to see the viewpoints of all the students and their experience with bullying, it shows how bullying comes in all shapes and sizes, and how hurtful it can be even if it is a short phrase of something unkind
-In the case for a faith based movie, I really like how it wasn’t too preachy with the word of God, but instead, it was the character development and doing what is right that shows being what a true Christian is all about
-The story is good, and the twists and turns make this story impactful

The So So:

-The fact that it is in Amazon, and not in theaters, we need to support the director, writer, and actor, Anthony Hackett, so he can continue doing what he does best and have his films in theaters, regardless, support him and rent the film on Amazon

What I Didn’t Like:

-The way some students handled their bullying situations I didn’t like, but watch it and see for yourself

Overall:

This is not your average faith based movie. This deals with a universal topic, and really makes into something real and impactful. The faith message is there, but the way it was intertwined together makes it something for everyone. Doesn’t matter what your faith is, this topic needs to be addressed. I said it once, and I will say it again, support Anthony Hackett and his ministry. It’s worth the m
