Joy Ride

Joy Ride is that best of both worlds comedy where you get raunchiness and heart and combined together there is something worthwhile there!!!

What I Like:

-In the comedy aspect, I laughed a few times, the raunchy comedy is there in full force, but the banter between the four leads is what made it funny for me
-There is some good dramatic substance in there as well which makes it a sort of feel good movie of sorts
-The diversity in this was spot on, and I enjoyed learning a culture while watching it

The So So:

-As I said before, it did have some raunchy comedy and some good dramatic moments, but when you pushed it all together it does create a tonal shift which was weird and sudden, I thought it would have transitioned better

What I Didn’t Like:

-Once it got to the drama, the problems and execution was very cliched, you almost knew what is going to happen

Overall:

A raunchy comedy casted by four Asian woman leads? I found it as a breathe of fresh air. It was funny and outrageous, but it also had a lot of heart. As for the diversity and culture, it was spot on for me. Combine all that, there is something worthwhile to see, and laugh about it as well!!!

  1. Good review. Personally, I really liked this movie. I wasn’t expecting a whole lot from it, especially since the marketing campaign for it wasn’t as strong, but it was definitely a hilarious film that I’ve watched again and again. The sentimental pieces were surprisingly strong, but the comedy angst and jokes were great, especially in how the cast delivered the lines.
