Old Dads (Sidenote: The Blackening)

Old Dads may have a point to make, but the writing and lack of cohesiveness really makes it intolerable!!!

Real Rating:

2.5 Dads Over 40

What I Like:

-I saw potential with Bill Burr as a director, I thought his execution was fine and he will learn to be even better in the future

The So So:

-The comedy was hit and miss, there were some jokes that made me laugh, but some jokes were cringy or not funny

What I Didn’t Like:

-I get the main point of this film, but the way they wrote it for this point didn’t quite work, it just made it look like jerks, I believe their point would’ve been better if the writing had a bit more heart, and less jerkiness
-The lack of transitions, just made it look out of touch, I felt like it was all over the place, and the lack of cohesiveness just didn’t felt like a movie with a point

Overall:

When you need to make a point in the film, even a controversial one, you have to do it right. If not, it makes you look bad. I do give credit to Bill Burr and his effort as a director, but he needs to realize that it is a movie more than a comedy special. I get the point they were trying to make, I just wish the writing and execution was better, because it made them seem more unlikable than funny!!!

Real Rating:

2.5 Dads Over 40

(Sidenote: The Blackening – This is comedic satire about black culture in horror films. I get the satire, and think for the most part the writing was good though predictable in the end. The comedy aspect, I thought it was subpar. I barely laughed at lot of their jokes, and thought the execution could be better. Other than that, it is entertaining to watch at home!!!
