The Holdovers may be a typical coming of age film of sorts, but it has the strongest acting I’ve seen so far!!!

What I Like:
-The acting is the strongest point of this film, Paul Giamatti was great, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph was sensational, even Dominic Sessa showed some true potential
-I also liked the old school feel that director Alexander Payne executed on this, it gave a different vibe, even showing how Boston looked in 1970
The So So:
-This was a coming of age movie of sorts, not just for the student, but for the teacher and cook as well, it can be predictable and slow at times, but when events go down, it was enjoyable to watch, the fact that this happened in a span of two weeks was interesting enough to see
What I Didn’t Like:
-How it all ended seemed too rash for my liking, yes I can understand for the sake of the story, but I felt it ended on a bleak note
Overall:
It can be a feel good, coming of age, Christmas movie per say. However the character depth and strong acting really gave this film some substance for us to understand and enjoy. The vibe and setting really brings out a different feeling than usual. Yes it may ended a little bleak, but overall it was an enjoyable watch!!!
