The Nice Guys is a witty movie with some great acting, the story can be a little confusing, but once it all made sense, it was a fun film to watch!!!

Not only have I ever seen both Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling in a movie together, but in a movie that is a comedy mystery. Never seen these guys in a comedy. It was so intriguing, I had to watch it.
What I Like: Let me start off with the chemistry between Russell Crowe, playing an enforcer named Jackson Healy and Ryan Gosling, playing a private investigator named Holland March. It was amazing seeing these guys work together so well. Not only that, they were hilarious together. I was laughing by the stupidity of their dialogue and their sarcasm. The scene where they were dealing with some protesters playing dead on some steps was comedy gold. Seeing Gosling screaming like a girl and being drunk was something new to watch. We are used to him playing the cool, suave guy in most of his films. The premise of the story was these guys had to work together to find a girl named Amelia Kuttner, played by Margaret Qualley, and realized their case was something bigger than they expected. Director Shane Black really captured the essence of Los Angeles in the 1970s. Just seeing the 70s cars and listening to the old 70s music really set a good vibe and set the tone for this type of film.
The So So: The story, even though it is a mystery, can get confusing at times and makes you wonder what the heck is going on. However, the clever writing really puts everything together to come up with a cool, even though it’s a little cliched, ending that made sense. The payoff was that the higher ups like the chief of the police and the corrupt businessmen were responsible of all the murders of the people that were ready to expose them. Angourie Rice played Holland’s daughter, Holly March. Who helps out with the investigation. However, for a 13 year old girl being in a big porn party and in the middle of a shoot out should really make her traumatized, but she is ok with everything. I thought it was a little inappropriate, but her acting was pretty good.
What I Didn’t Like: I wish there was more backstory about Holland and his daughter Holly. They mentioned how their house was burned down, but would like to know what happened to Holly’s mom and why she is not there. I thought it could add more depth to the character development to the main characters.
Overall: I thought this movie had a little bit of everything to make this a fun watch. The comedy, story, and action comes together very smoothly for any of us to enjoy. It did set up for a potential sequel, and I wouldn’t be mad if they do make one, because the chemistry between Crowe and Gosling is something special to see!!!
